So come on out, stock up and have fun with all of us at Dean’s. We are all so ready for summer – the JERSEY SHORE IS BACK!
We are super-excited and proud to announce our partnership with Restore the Shore, Hometown Heroes and 94.3 The Point to bring you RESTORE THE SHORE WEEKEND, taking place Saturday and Sunday, March 23d & 24th in all 3 of our stores. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for local non-profit Hometown Heroes for their Sandy relief efforts – are you in?
We will be donating a percentage of our weekend sales from all 3 stores – 2 days, 3 stores – to Hometown Heroes and 100% of that will go to helping local people affected by Sandy. But we can’t do it and reach the goal without you. We invite you to stop in, shop up and stock up, knowing that your participation will go towards helping the families in our own communities, our backyards, local people we all know who have lost their homes and have had to relocate, have been struggling trying to buy a new furnace and hot water heater, drywall, schoolbooks, you name it – all due to that fateful day when Superstorm Sandy made landfall and changed lives forever.
We urge you to not only come in for the usual, but to take the opportunity to stock up on frozen and non-perishables, things you know will get used and know that your actions will directly help those around us.
We’ll have some fun, too! the crew from 94.3 The Point radio station will be in Shrewsbury on Saturday, 3/23 and in Ocean on Sunday, both from 11-1 giving out prizes, hosting games and giveaways. We’ll also be giving away limited edition Restore the Shore reusable bags and if you spend over $50, you’ll get a raffle ticket to win a family pack of beach badges to the Jersey Shore (which beaches to choose from will be determined closer to the season). There will be huge sales and lots of food sampling and demos on our days with the Point; plus, did we mention the Juice Bar official Restore the Shore drink for the weekend? Follow our Facebook for a chance to name it!
Together, we can make a difference in a lot of lives, so come out on March 23rd & 24th and let’s DO IT!

Only a few days left until the big event, a lecture from special guest speaker Courtney Pineau of the Non-GMO Project. You can sign up by calling 732-842-8686 or hit us up at firstname.lastname@example.org
While spreading the word about this event around Red Bank and Asbury Park, it surprised me how many people had no idea what GMOs are and what they’re about. To try to explain them to a layperson in a short and sweet manner, well, it makes one sound like a crazy person. I sounded crazy. Flat-out nuts. And no one seemed too concerned when I explained it to them, they really didn’t seem to care.
In light of the scientific proof found in a newly-released study, people should really start caring. Massive Tumors in Rats Fed GMOs in First Long-Term Study.
In a nutshell, any previous testing had been short-term, 90 days – there were no discernable results so the Big Ag companies deemed GMOs “safe.” But in a lifespan, 90 days is just a blip. This study was done over a period of 2 years. The rats developed large tumors, sustained multiple organ damage and died at a faster rate. Liver and kidneys were damaged as early as 4 months into the rat’s life. Safe indeed. If this is only the first long-term study, you can only imagine what else they will discover with further testing of this kind.
Find out more about GMOs and the Non-GMO Project at our Shrewsbury location this Sunday, Sept. 23 at 2pm. Actually, come at 1pm for Jessica Jarmer’s on-GMO food demo – tempeh sausage crumble on a butternut squash sauce over pasta – and stay afterwards for Abby Cahn-Anton’s food demo. Eat and learn.
See you there!
Hi everyone, GREAT news – we have confirmed guest speaker Courtney Pineau from the Non-GMO Project to come speak at our store, this is HUGE! All those Project verification logos you see on so many products in our stores (and all over the country!) – these are the people who put them there. Come learn about the Non-GMO Project from the source itself.
Dean’s Natural Food Market invites you to attend an in-store presentation from Courtney Pineau of the Non-GMO Project.
GMOs, or Genetically Modified Organisms, are organisms which have been genetically altered by inserting genes of one species into another species (also known as “genetically engineered”), creating combinations meant to be pest and herbicide-resistant, but possibly with health risks to consumers. GMO foods have not been proven to be safe for us to eat and may in fact be linked to many health issues such as food allergies, infertility, autism, digestive problems and others.
Over 50 countries worldwide have banned GMO crops. In the USA, GMO foods such as corn, sugar beets, soy, canola and zucchini have been present in our food supply since the early 1990s,have been present in our and do not yet require federally-mandated labeling.
The Non-GMO Project is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to develop and uphold a standardized definition of “non-GMO” for food and other products that are produced without genetic engineering. The Non-GMO Project is the only organization in North America offering independent verification of testing for products in the US and Canada. Products which have been verified by the Non-GMO Project as being free of GMOs can be identified by their verification logo on the packaging.
This free presentation starts at 2 pm on Sunday, September 23rd and will take place in our Shrewsbury location at 490 Broad St. (Rt. 35 N), Shrewsbury NJ. All ages are welcome to attend.
Dean’s Natural Food Market welcomes the up to 100,000 music fans visiting our area over the next few days for Bamboozle – and we hope to meet some!
Customers and employees alike in our Ocean store are starting to feel the excitement (translated: “ARE FREAKING OUT”) for a HUGE event happening here on the Jersey Shore this weekend: The Bamboozle Festival. Dean’s Natural Food Market Ocean is only a 5-minute shot up Sunset Ave. from the festival, taking place on the beach and boardwalk in Asbury Park, NJ.
Well, here is our shameless PSA to everyone out there attending the Bamboozle and looking for food – STOP BY! First of all, I know that whenever I stay at a hotel, #1 thing I do after checking in is to find the nearest decent market and stock up on bottled water & snacks for the hotel room, sometimes even a take-home meal or a salad. Hotel tap water can sometimes be kind of grody and paying $5 for a minibar/venue bottle is just not going to happen. And often when traveling, the healthier options just aren’t there and you’re stuck eating fast food or loading up on a greasy hotel breakfast buffet of bacon and undercooked scrambled eggs. We’ve got healthy breakfasts, a great 100% organic vegan salad bar, quick grab-n-go sandwiches, fresh organic juices and smoothies, wheatgrass, whatever you might need on your way to a very long day of music and partying on the beach. And speaking of beaches, got sunblock? We have that too.
Oh and Skrillex and anyone from We Came as Romans – A fresh juice is on me if ya stop by 🙂
What is water kefir? Known by many, MANY names (due to the many different cultures who have been using it for centuries), water kefir, tibicos, tibi, Japanese water crystals, Africian bees, Balm of Gilead, the list goes on and on – but what IS it?
In a nutshell, it’s a drink made by fermenting yeast and bacteria, which are called “grains.” They are mixed with water, sugar and an acidic bit of fruit and left to do their thing. Sounds delicious, mmmmm. /end sarcasm. But no, really – the result is a “fizzy-lifting drink,” carbonated like soda but without the processed sugar, artificial flavors and colors AND with an extra added bonus – a ton of natural probiotics. Sort of like kombucha. It’s gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan and low cal, plus you can flavor it too.
Find out more at our first class with the knowledgeable and dynamic Miss Zoe of RAWBundant. You know Zoe, we’ve talked about her and her amazing nut cheezes and other products here before (OK, her raw cashew feta on crackers, drool…) and if you haven’t met her in person, this is NOT to be missed.
If you’d like to register, sign up in-store or call the store of your choice: Shrewsbury 12pm: 732-842-8686 or Ocean 4pm: 732-517-1515. See ya there!
delicious - and pretty
Who’s going to watch the big game this weekend? Political correctness dictates that Dean’s has no official stance or preference on who wins, but then again, we ARE born-and-bred New Jersey folk, soooo… *cough*cough*bigblue*ahem*cough*
If you’re subscribed to our newsletters, you already know that we’ve got a crazy sale going on – Organic Avocados on sale for only 99¢ each (!!!) ((and who knows how much lower they’ll be on Super (Bowl) Sunday!))
